It was once thought that children outgrew attention-deficit disorders, but we now know that many teenagers and young adults continue to have difficulty regulating attention and impulsivity. Attention-deficit disorders among girls are often overlooked and undiagnosed. Gifted children may not be diagnosed until the increased demands of middle and high school affect their academic performance. Adolescents often find the transition to college difficult to manage.
